KCSA Good Neighbor Awards
The Kentucky Crushed Stone Association implemented the Good Neighbor Award in 2000 to recognize aggregate producers and associates whose community involvement and support activities enhanced the public’s perception of the aggregates industry. The Kentucky Crushed Stone Association firmly believes that an active community relations program is the best way for an aggregate producer or affiliated company within the industry to demonstrate clearly that a company can be and, indeed is, an asset in any community. The ultimate goal of the Good Neighbor Award program is improvement of the public’s perception of both local crushed stone, sand and gravel operations and those that support the aggregates industry by generating positive media exposure.

Environmental Category & Community Relations
Haydon Materials Bardstown Quarry
Environmental Category
Yager Materials Corp. Owensboro, KY

Environmental Category
Our Bardstown Quarry originally had a single driveway, used as an entrance and exit for both Haydon Materials and Mago Construction. Loaded aggregate trucks were required to make a 200 degree turn when leaving the site. Although this did slow the vehicles down, it also increased the likelihood of material spillage on the county road in front of the quarry. To help relieve congestion and minimize spillage at the shared, multi-use drive, we installed a new exit-only lane. The new drive leads straight off of the scales, past a remote ticket station, and ties into the county road at 90 degrees. The new, one lane drive still promotes a slow entrance onto the public road when leaving the site, but significantly reduces the material spillage from loaded trucks leaving the quarry. The exit-only lane eliminates the original turn that caused the spillage and also lessens the traffic at the original drive.
Community Relations
- One way we have enhanced our community relations is becoming more involved in the area schools. We have taken part in various career days for elementary through high school aged children. Our presentations have allowed students to gain knowledge of the careers associated with working in a quarry.
- Based on the age group we discuss topics such as the uniform, safety, equipment and the various jobs.
- We also take part in mock interviews at the local high schools. We interview students and provide feedback on ways they can improve their interviewing skills.
- In addition to conducting mock interviews, we also help the area high school students with resume development.
- We also take part in testing students at the Nelson County ATC on pre-shift safety procedures as well as their equipment operation skills.
Ohio River Clean Up

2021 Western KY Tornado Cleanup
-
Project scope and impact in the community of Dawson Springs, KY which is about 3.5 hours from Danville, KY. Western KY was hit hard with a tornado on December 10th 2021 and it devastated many towns in it's path. Dawson Springs is a small town of about 2,500 people. Over 70% of the homes were completely demolished by the tornado. Caldwell Stone felt a call to help. After several days of reaching out to the state, local authorities and friends that lived there, they decided to head to Dawson Springs. They rented 3 skid steers with grapples for grabbing debris and took 3 employees along with John & Clay Albright and went west about 4 days after the tornado.
-
Clay Albright "It was such a huge team effort to get us down there. We borrowed trailers from friends and customers, a camper to sleep in from another friend, chainsaws from local dealers and without all of their help we wouldn't have made such a difference. The heavy equipment rental companies we deal with regularly stepped up big with providing skid steers and service while we helped out. We’re definitely thankful for their contributions!"
Princeton Quarry - 2021 Western KY tornado cleanup
- Princeton Quarry Employees volunteered their time and effort to help the Princeton and Dawson Springs communities in need. Many Rogers Group employees and equipment were used to help clear paths for more help to arrive. Rogers Group was able to use equipment and skill to help a neighbor in need. This Tragic event brought the surrounding communities together for a common goal.
- Employees worked through the weekend and into the coming weeks clearing roads, yards, and people’s homes of debris.
