Leadership Kentucky Crushed Stone


The Kentucky Crushed Stone Association proudly announces our Emerging Leaders and consisting of the following five guiding principles:

Session Overview:

* Each session starts on a Wednesday at noon and ends on Friday at noon. (1/2 day, full day, 1/2 day)

* Participant travels Tuesday morning arriving at location for informal networking lunch and greeted by program staff and host company.

* Day 1 - Opening session starts at 12 p.m. (noon) with lunch followed by leadership trainer until around 5:00 p.m. We conclude the day with a dinner that night in a social setting ideal for networking, relationship building and your enjoyment.  

* Day 2 - We begin the next morning with breakfast, followed by continued classroom leadership training and lunch. Following lunch, we travel to an aggregate facility for a quarry tour and learn about the operation. We conclude the tour with a debrief and recap of the day. We return to the hotel following the tour. We conclude the day with a dinner that will include an outside speaker.

* Day 3 - The closing session will provide a morning wrap-up with training/speaker and concluding with a box lunch. Travel home that afternoon.

Each Session will include the following components:

1. Technical (facility tour/subject matter expert), safety discussion at the facility.
2. Self-development (individual, team, organization).
3. Networking (with local industry leadership).
4. Political (get to know your local politicians/advocate on our industry's behalf).

What can each Leadership participant expect:

  • Thorough debrief after each session - What did we learn?
  • Our Emerging Leaders consultant/coach Greg Coker, will provide one-on-one coaching during interim (between each session). If the attendee should need more coaching on a specific subject, Greg Coker will be available to provide further assistance throughout the duration of the program.
  • Reading material between each session. Each participant will be provided reading material and encouraged to do some homework between each session which will assist in better understanding the previous session and/or help better understand what will take place during the next session.

When applying, please take your time and be as thorough and thoughtful in your answers as possible. No incomplete applications (including those with missing references) will be considered.

 

Your Investment:

  • The tuition for the 2023 -2024 Leadership Kentucky Crushed Stone program is $3,300.00 per individual.
  • The tuition does not include lodging and/or transportation to/from program sessions.
  • Once the class has been identified, we will work with each participant on billing for tuition.
  • Additionally, your investment covers the cost(s) at each hotel (food and beverages and setup), any outside speakers, transportation for the group at each location, all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) etc.

Session Two: Finance / Mini MBA

Location: Bardstown, KY

Dates: Wednesday, November 8 - Friday, November 10

Day 1 - 1/2 Day
  • Arrive at noon: Lunch
  • Session starts at 1 p.m.
  • Discussion on Management and Leadership - What is the difference?
  • Debrief of the 10 Day MBA Book
  • Break-Outs/Debrief
  • Day 1 debrief
  • Adjourn at approximately 5pm
  • Dinner/Activities
Day 2: - Full Day
  • Breakfast at The hotel
  • Guest Speaker: We like to kick off the morning with a guest speaker, elected official, business leader, etc. 
  • Guest Speaker - Business / accounting related speaker
  • Focus areas - Economics, balance sheets, chash flow statements, budgeting, etc. 
  • Lunch

Day 3: - Half Day

  • Strategic planning and problem solving
  • Public speaking & how to run a meeting

  • Preview Session three - Ky politics, what are the hot topics in the KY legislature, preparation of how a bill becomes law.

Session Three: Legislative and Policy

Location: Downtown Lexington area

Dates: Wednesday, March 6 - Friday, March 8, 2024

Day 1 - 1/2 Day
  • Arrive at noon: Lunch
  • Session starts at 1 p.m.
  • Discussion on Legislative and Policy Session
    • How a bill becomes law / legislative process
    • How to lobby for or against a bill
    • Social style models related to General Assembly
    • A breakdown of Kentucky's legislature
  • Day 1 debrief
  • Adjourn at approximately 5pm
  • Dinner/Activities downtown Lexington
Day 2: - Full Day
  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Day on the Hill - Capitol Annex and Capitol
  • Attend committee meetings (House and Senate Transportation, Nat. Resources, A&R, Etc.) depending on schedules
  • Individual legislative meetings
  • Lunch at Capitol Annex
  • House/Senate proceedings - we will attempt attend both chambers 
  • Depart Capitol back to hotel
  • Dinner at local downtown restaurant
  • Guest Speaker: TBA
Day 3: - Half Day
  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Quarry Tour - Vulcan Materials - Downtown Lexington
