William Devers - 2020 Miner of the Year

2020 Miner of the Year - William Lee Devers, Harrod Concrete & Stone Company

William Lee Devers began working for Harrod Concrete & Stone Company in May of 1977. He began by driving a water truck, controlling the dust around the mine for his first two years. When the opportunity arose to manage the company’s inventory as a stockpile manager, William moved up and served in this role for one year. Recognized as a leader, William moved on to become a material handler driving haul trucks in and out of the mine to the jaw crusher for 5 years. This position gave him an interesting perspective of the underground mine. In the late 1980’s, he took the opportunity to operate a jaw crusher and served in that role for 7 years. In the mid 1990’s, he served as a clean-up loader for 1 year. Since the late 1990’s, William has worked as a yard loader, maintaining the stockpiles and managing trucks. William has successfully obtained the state aggregate certification which every quarry operation in Kentucky is required to have on site.

William Devers is a firm believer in safety. In his 44-year tenure with Harrod Concrete & Stone Company, he has only once missed receiving a safety award. While this is a monumental accomplishment on its own, William also has never had a lost time accident since he began working in 1977. On behalf of the members of the Kentucky Crushed Stone Association, we are proud to announce the 2020 Miner of the Year - Mr. William Lee Devers with Harrod Concrete & Stone Company.
